Trumpet Club

Trumpet Club started as a pilot project in the summer of 2025 with the aim of introducing primary school aged girls in Lewisham to the trumpet. Currently operating in one school, girls in Trumpet Club are provided with their own trumpet and receive a weekly, group lesson, free of charge.

Why girls? Why trumpets?

Hattie is a girl who learned to play the trumpet through group lessons at her Lewisham primary school. Having that opportunity opened lots of doors to her including gaining a music place at a local girls secondary school. Trumpet lessons aren’t being offered at the local primary schools any more, and the secondary school she went to has noticed fewer girls joining the school able to play a brass instrument. Hattie wants younger girls to be able to access the same sort of opportunities she has benefited from and has set up Trumpet Club to help with this.

Who can join Trumpet Club?

At the moment, Trumpet Club is an invitation-only opportunity. Girls in Y5 are nominated by their school and invited to join. Schools nominate girls who are not already receiving instrumental tuition and who they feel would benefit from the opportunity to learn the trumpet with a young, female role model. Whilst some members of Trumpet Club may be eligible for Pupil Premium, this is not a requirement.

How is Trumpet Club funded?

Currently, Trumpet Club receives no funding and is run on an entirely voluntary basis by Hattie. For the pilot phase, instruments, mouthpieces, cases and music have been donated by friends and family but in the future, the hope is for Trumpet Club to be able to access funding grants.

How can I help?

If you would like to sponsor a trumpet, mouthpiece, case or other piece of equipment for Trumpet Club, please contact Hattie.
